In this world. In this place. In this soul.

Random Acts of Kindness Day: February 17th.

Fun fact; I am a first grade teacher. My job is a profession where I learn how to better myself, better my students, and better our learning. At age 25, I often get asked “when am I thinking about settling down and having children of my own“. This question often makes me smile and respond with, “well I already have 22 children who need me everyday and sometimes refer to me as mama.”

Working in education can be challenging, nerve racking, and very time consuming. It is an environment where everyone is looking to YOU for the answers. It is a field of constant change, expectations, limits, scores, data, interventions, content, measuring, comparisons, comprehension, etc.

When my job becomes overwhelming, then I often find myself turning to my kids (students) for support and relief. First graders will tell you exactly how they think and feel.

When I feel little arms wrap around my neck and hear the soft “I love you Mrs. Wood” come out of their mouth, then I know I am right where I need to be.

To celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day this Saturday, February 17th I thought I would share with you what it means to be kind from the heart(s) of first graders.
